Greer is a quiet little town at 8,400 feet, it’s a great place to retire or visit anytime of year.

Greer is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Apache County, Arizona, United States. Located within the White Mountains of Arizona and surrounded by the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, Greer is the highest town in the state at an elevation of approximately 8,400 feet.

Greer is home to Sunrise Ski Resort, the largest ski park in the state. The resort has 7 lifts that span over 3 mountains, Apache peak (11,100 ft), Cyclone Peak (10,700 ft), and Sunrise peak (10,700 ft). Rendezvous Diner 117 1120, Greer, AZ

This is my favorite place to get breakfast from in Greer. Cute restaurant with amazing food and friendly staff.

West Baldy Trail

Try this 14.2-mile out-and-back trail near Eagar, Arizona. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 14 min to complete. This is a very popular area for backpacking, camping, and hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are May through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.

Tunnel Reservoir

Tunnel Reservoir is 15 acres in size, with an average depth of 10 feet. The lake is filled in the winter through a diversion off the Little Colorado River. The Arizona Game and Fish Department stocks catchable-sized rainbow trout in the spring and summer. Occasionally, a few brown trout make it into the lake from the diversion. As it is an irrigation reservoir, the lake is drawn down considerably by late summer, but this doesn’t seem to affect water quality.

Butterfly Lodge Museum 4 Co Rd 1126, Greer https://butterflylodgemuseum.org/

Butterfly Lodge was built in 1913 and first occupied in 1914. The log cabin’s name “Apuni Oyis” in Blackfeet was inspired by the countless butterflies in the meadows surrounding the cabin. It was built by John Butler for James W. Schultz as his hunting cabin, and later became the home of his son, Hart M. Schultz aka Lone Wolf.

The lodge housed two colorful careers, the father’s fashioned in words, and the son’s in painted images and sculptures of the West, both of which found inspiration from this little cabin and its surroundings.
